Becoming One Of The
Greats
A Treatment for the Gatorade commercial
by Kennard Johnson
Würzburg, Germany – Summer Afternoon.
13-year-old DIRK and his older sister SILKE
Nowitzki were on a basketball court not too far from their house shooting
hoops. His family was heavily into sports, mother, Helga Nowitzki being a
professional basketball player and father, Jörg-Werner a handball
player. SILKE was a local track and field champion but turned to love the sport
of basketball also.
The sun is at its
highest height during this warm summer afternoon in Germany while the bro and
sis are freshening up their skills on the court. Growing up DIRK was always
tall and off balanced playing sports. He noticed SILKE was always at the top of
her game and wondered how she was so good at every sport she played. He then
noticed after their practice or hoop session that she’d always have a bottle of
Gatorade with her.
One day DIRK decided
to drink a bottle of Gatorade before a hooping session with SILKE and turn into
a basketball phenomenon. His skills ignited that warm summer day. His shots
were dropping and he became more balanced and focused.
He then turned into
the great DIRK NOWITZKI we’ve grown to know today playing for the DALLAS
MAVERICKS.
